Share your idea freely. You never know who’s insight or feedback could help you make important improvements, or who might be able to connect you to valuable partners. And while I’m not a lawyer I can tell you that you don’t have IP until you have a product. Even then it may not be “defensible,” in the sense that a competitor such as Google or Facebook could launch a feature that replicates your core idea and force you to pivot.

And in the event that one of your peers has a similar concept, it’s rare for your discussions to provide enough information for your idea to be ripped off. The power of an idea comes from implementation. Without passion and dedication no idea will ever see the public for which it was intended. Passion is something only you can provide.
