You are what you think. That’s why self-hypnosis is so vital to entrepreneurial success.
This past Friday Pharell Williams released a 24-hour music video for his song ‘I’m Happy,’ which involved Skateboard P and a cast of hundreds dancing to the same song on repeat.
I’ve been spellbound all weekend.
When I watch the video there’s no room for anything in my mind except happiness. Thank you, Pharell, for this amazing gift you’ve given the world.
You probably don’t have 24 hours to spare, but I challenge you to watch even a few minutes of the video, and not feel totally uplifted. If you can resist the urge to dance and sing along, you’re made of tougher stuff than me. Kudos.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is defined as
A special psychological state with certain physiological attributes, resembling sleep only superficially and marked by a functioning of the individual at a level of awareness other than the ordinary conscious state…One suggestion is that hypnosis is a mental state, while another links it to imaginative role-enactment. Persons under hypnosis are said to have heightened focus and concentration with the ability to concentrate intensely on a specific thought or memory, while blocking out sources of distraction.
Imaginative role-enactment, you say? Sounds like someone who masters self-hypnosis is unf*#ckwitable. And you’ve sure heard the term “fake it till you make it.”
Self-hypnosis and the impostor syndrome
A limiting belief we often harbor is that we’re somehow undeserving of the success we desire, and “impostor syndrome” is the notion we’ll be called out before some higher authority that only exists in our minds.
Self-hypnosis is the opposite. We believe we are worthy of our greatest ambitions. Every setback is just bump on the road.
Self-hypnosis for entrepreneurs
When no one believes in us, we entrepreneurs dig deep to find the strength and resolve to make our dreams a reality.
Kanye West is my favorite example of a rapper, artist and entrepreneur who knew he was destined for greatness years before the world recognized his genius. Kanye West hypnotized himself, and never came out from the spell.
Sometimes we just need a subtle reminder of what is beautiful and good in the world. Sometimes we need to be beat over the head with a success mantra. Whatever it takes to get you there.
You are what you think.
